What Went Wrong?

...And What To Do About It!

1.  The Leader has either failed to indicate a mark to the second rider, or maybe you think a mark is needed to avoid confusion?

Then please mark it yourself anyway!

2.  The 2^nd bike has failed to stop and mark?

As 1 above - Then please mark it yourself!

3.  Marker is positioned out of sight / not seen?

Try and double up by marking in another position to prevent followers going wrong.

4.  Rider(s) in front take(s) a wrong turn?

Either

1. Leave them to go on, DO NOT chase them, wait till TEC arrives - tell them what has happened before rejoining the ride. (Preferred option), or
2. if you have the route, wait until the following bike arrives, get them to mark the junction and tell them to wait for the TEC to tell them what has happened. You may then choose to chase the offender to try and get them to turn round. The TEC will wait for 5 minutes and then leave, so be prepared to follow the route until you catch up with the TEC.

5.  You see the Marker leave the junction early?

Mark the junction yourself.

6.  Marker appears to be indicating the wrong direction? –

• If you are a Route Holder stop & confirm the correct route. If indicated direction is correct, then carry on (leader has changed route). If direction really is incorrect, ride on correct route.
• If a non-holder of the route, ride to next junction & when you find no marker go back to last marker.
• Marker must wait and tell TEC what happened and how many bikes have gone the wrong way.

7.  You see a marker or rider leaving without waiting for TEC – either mark it or, if route is obvious (no confusion), then carry on straight & let them go. Tell the next marker, who will tell the TEC.

8.  Leader goes the “wrong way”?

He hasn’t! - follow!

9.  Leader runs out of markers?

Wait 5 mins. If still none, Leader calls the TEC and find if there is an issue. Put out an announcement on WhatsApp EKAM Social Rides. If no response, turn around & re-trace the route. Flag down any riders coming towards you after the last Marker and get them to wait / congregate. Tell each marker to wait at their mark and you will be back soon once you have found the TEC & any problem. Direct them to look at WhatsApp.

10.  TEC finds a problem?

Contact the leader & inform.  Lead returns & holds markers. TEC broadcasts on WhatsApp.

11.  It’s taking 5 days to get through traffic lights and town centres?

Use the staggered formation of riding WHENEVER YOU CAN

When approaching stop lights / junctions etc choose your position early and don’t swap at the last minute as that affects everyone else behind you. OAP!!
