Location: Ramsgate Fire Station Learning Centre (also held at other locations across Kent)
Date: 27th May 2025
I heard a lot of good things about these events and had put my name down for e-mail alerts some time ago. A few weeks ago, an e-mail dropped into my inbox offering me a place at the course at Ramsgate Fire Station, so I signed up and off I went.
The event is essentially split into 3 modules, and covers all the essentials as to what you should do if you are first on the scene of an unfortunate situation.
The event was expertly delivered, by some clearly very knowledgeable people, with good humour which engaged large numbers of strangers quickly.
Module 1
- Arrival on scene
- Dynamic Risk Assessment – keeping yourself safe
- Determining the location
- Alerting the emergency services
Module 2 (all hands-on)
- How to deal with a significant bleed
- Turning a casualty and safe helmet removal
- CPR
Module 3
- How to be seen
- The thinking biker
- Avoid SMIDSY (sorry mate I didn’t see you!)
- What will your conspicuity strategy be for your next ride?
My key take aways:
- buy and carry a first aid kit, which includes a trauma bandage and something to use as a tourniquet
- Download ‘what 3 words’ App
- Consider some pink Hi Viz and improve my visibility especially from the side and behind
Summary: An exceptional event, which ought to be attended by all motorcycle riders and pillions. Delivered professionally and expertly with good humour which engaged and got participants interacting quickly. Well done Biker Down!
Biker Down will be our Guests and running this training session at the September EKAM Club Night – 17th September at Sandyacres Sports and Social Club – all members and guests welcome.
