9-12 May
Yet another great Wales weekend. We had 22 bikes and four pillions. As you will see from the pictures Wales is as good as anywhere in Europe, apart from high mountain passes.
The group was a mixture of those who really enjoy the weekend, some newbies who were on their first organised weekend. As usual we divided into two groups, one doing our North route heading from our base at the Metropole Hotel in Llandrindod Wellsto Blaenau Ffestiniog. This route went via mountain roads, stunning valleys and around Bala Lake. Steve Wynne said, “This was the best ride he has ridden in Wales”.
Our Southwest route took us again through some spectacular roads, with hills and valleys, down to Pendine Sands. This is where world speed records were attempted as the sand is very hard and the tide goes out a long way. In my group we did this on the Saturday and had lunch in summer sunshine, with ice cream and cold drinks, not the false image of Wales some have. Each group did both routes on different days.
You may ask what is the attraction of riding in Wales, in particular in Mid Wales? Pristine road surfaces, hardly a pothole to be seen and most of the time virtually no other vehicles.
We had just two bikes with punctures which with help were sorted. Our thanks go again to John Barry for creating the routes and doing a recce. For Sarah Brown for managing the hotel bookings and for a great friendly group.
