After the popularity of our inaugural training weekend last year, I’m delighted to announce the return of our Training Weekend for 2025.

In a nutshell – this is a training weekend, stopping just outside Basingstoke overnight, returning the next day.

The weekend will begin on the Saturday morning from Ashford and arrive in Basingstoke Saturday evening. This will be a full day’s riding of approximately 160 miles.

Sunday morning after breakfast we will ride back to Ashford approx. 170 miles (NB this is also a full day of riding)

The routes offer a mixed variety of roads and will be run on 2 riders to 1 Observer ratio, switching several times on route to allow for adequate training for both riders.

We shall be having tea breaks and lunch stops on route. (self funded)

The last leg of the route on Sunday will be a group ride using the marker system – finishing at Ashford.

This weekend is open to all members of EKAM:

  • Whether you’ve just joined EKAM and are actively working with an observer to pass your Advanced Rider Test
  • Whether you’re a long-standing member and just want an observer’s opinion of your riding.
  • Or are you considering doing your Masters?

We’re able to cater for all levels and all are welcome.

2 riders are paired for the weekend, but will have different observers through the weekend, which helps give different points of view and keeps the whole event vibrant.  On each leg one candidate leads, observer in the middle, second candidate following.

Accommodation & Costs

We shall be staying at the Wheatsheaf Inn (North Waltham), and I have provisionally booked individual rooms for 10 EKAM members, as well as the 6 observers attending.

The room cost is £86 (including breakfast) and we’ll also be having a group dinner at the Inn on Saturday evening (a separate cost)

Your Contribution for the Training will be £40.00 per person per day as well as the hotel cost.  Total £166.00 .  This will have to be paid in advance to the EKAM bank account (Details will be given on confirmation of booking for the weekend)

PLEASE NOTE THIS WILL BE NON-REFUNDABLE unless we can re-allocate your place with another candidate

Some feedback from last year: -

  1. “Overall I absolutely loved it, and will definitely have my name down for next year.”
  1. “I must say thank you again and well done to the observers on an exceptionally enjoyable weekend. I definitely feel my riding was better at the end of it, than at the beginning. It’s been one year since I passed my test, and have had no real input since then, so plenty of time for bad habits to creep in. Everything went well, I felt the mixing up of observers was good, the routes and distances were good in my opinion.  I was happy to travel out of the area, and I also think a future event in Kent, Surrey, Sussex would be great too.”
  2. "Thank you all for organizing a really enjoyable and productive weekend. It was obvious there had been an immense amount of preparation for this, and it showed in how smoothly it ran."
  3. "I just wanted to say thank you all for the hard work, dedication and skill the observers contributed to the Peterborough training weekend. I found the feedback very helpful and has taken my riding up a notch."
