MSM I 2024

It’s Back!

Yep, the Midsummer Madness trip to France is back in the EKAM calendar after a 3 year hiatus.

“Brilliant” I thought, “I really need something like that to blow away the cobwebs of the last few months”, so I pinged and email to Sarah as soon as I could.

You don’t know what MSM is, if you have joined EKAM in the last few years, you will have seen a few UK based trips with this label, but the true MSM was always a one day trip to France riding your bike in and around the Pas De Calais, with 20+ EKAM compatriots. Stating at Dover docks at an ungodly hour on the Saturday closest to Midsummer as we could get, and returning on a late ferry. The trips have always been popular in the past, but Covid and the loss of special rates with P&O put paid to the trip over the past few years.

A Great Event and Much Interest in EKAM

The weekend of 10th and 11th August was something of a scorcher and the Betteshanger Sprint enjoyed perfect conditions for what is one of my favourite events.  After the travails of Covid the event now seems to be fully up to speed (no pun intended).    [No really].

Thoughts from a participant

I am sure Barry’s article will give you a flavour of the weekend. I know he will also give our thanks to Iain for his organising/planning and to the observers who worked really hard carrying out six observed rides over two days. I found the training weekend was one of those events that make a significant difference. There were two significant pieces of advice that have improved my riding.

IAM Presentation and Question Time

Stuart Haythorne, IAM Area Service Delivery Manager will be joining us at our October club night. Stuart will give a short presentation and then be available to answer questions from club members.

To ensure that we cover a wide range of issues, and not get focused on just one or two, we are asking for questions to be sent to me as Chair, (The Chairman).  I will then send Stuart an idea of the areas that members want covered, but not the specific questions.

This is an important meeting as we have not had an IAM representative at a club night for a long time, so I hope we get lots of questions and a good turnout. The cut-off for questions to be sent to me will be Monday 30 September.

  1. Meet the Examiners - Mark Jaffe
  2. Deal Motor Show
  3. Dealer Demo Night at Alford Bros
  4. A Weekend Trip to Peterborough
