EKAM wants to say thank you to Ian and Janice who have made an immense contribution to the successful running of our club. They have clocked up over 30 years of service in one form or another. After all these years of supporting the club in many ways, latterly as club secretary and observer (Ian) and magazine editor (Janice), they moved into committee retirement in November 2023.
Brief Riding History
- Ian passed his IAM test in 1992;
- qualified as an observer in 1993;
- a senior observer in 1994
- and a national observer in 2014.
Brief Club Service History
Apart from riding duties Ian took on the role of co-editor of the club magazine in 1996, (this passed to Janice as editor of the magazine and continued until the February 2024 edition). Ian then added the role of club secretary in 2011 to his club portfolio.
Ian has helped set up and run the club ITAM sessions. Janice has been involved in transporting equipment and greeting associates, looking after the club house so that Ian could take an observed ride in the afternoon.
Even though Janice is not a rider, her commitment to supporting Ian and the club has been outstanding. In 2011 as an IAM registered club friend Janice became PA to the secretary and committee minute taker. She has continued with these and many other roles for over 27 years.
Observer History
Ian is to continue as an observer. In this role Ian has given an astonishing level of commitment to his duties as an observer. His observer record is consistently the highest in the observer corps, having helped:
- 75 associates/members assessment
- clocking up 1277 training runs
- coaching 18 observers to qualify
It would be too much to list all the other tasks they have carried out in support of the club. Never tiring to take on duties that others suddenly drop or volunteers couldn’t be found for. It is no exaggeration to say that their tireless support has kept the club going when at times it may have folded.
As a club we don’t think that a small trophy is sufficient to say thank you for their remarkable commitment to EKAM. On behalf of all our members Sarah will present them with an inscribed crystal vase and a bouquet of flowers as a thanks for all they have done.
